Four cases of people who committed suicide over the past weekend were reported to the Namibian Police.
According to the head of the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, one incident was reported on Saturday at around 12:30 at Nkurenkuru.
“It is alleged that the 41-year-old Aino Magano Andreas, who resides in the Shoprite flats overdosed on pills and died instantly,” she said.
The bottle of pills was found at the scene and her next of kin were informed.
Police investigation continues.
On the same day, the 28-year-old Shapumba Jacob Shipingana hung himself with a wire from the branch of a mopane tree in front of his house in the Oshitukafitu Village.
He did not leave a suicide note and his next of kin was informed.
In addition, Shikwambi said on 24 June 2023, at Olukango village in Ondagwa vicinity at 08:00 it is alleged that the 34-year-old Helena Ndilipukuku Iihi, hung herself with a rope in her sleeping room.
According to Shikwambi the victim’s next of kin has been informed.
The fourth incident was reported to police in Windhoek after the body of a person yet to be identified was spotted hanging from a tree in a riverbed close to Pupkewitz Megabuild in the Northern Industrial area of Windhoek.
A passerby saw the victim hanging from a tree on a piece of rope and notified the Namibian Police immediately. According to Shikwambi, an investigation has been launched to identify the victim.
