Windhoek, Namibia: FNB has announced a substantial increase in the cash prize for the winners of the FNB Women Super League (WSL) for the 2023/24 season.
The victorious team will now walk away with a remarkable N$250,000, a significant leap from the N$80,000 awarded to the champions in the previous season. This announcement was made during the league’s official draw launch in the capital city, Windhoek.
FNB’s Head of Marketing, Gordon Pokolo, expressed the bank’s commitment to supporting women’s football in the country through this sponsorship, which is now in its second year of a three-year contract. Pokolo also emphasized FNB’s determination to make the FNB WSL an exciting and prominent fixture for football clubs in Namibia.
“Our aim is to ensure FNB Women Super League remains at the pinnacle of football, and thus our commitment to the increased funding for the 2023/24 season,” stated Gordon Pokolo, Head of Marketing at FNB.
The substantial increase in the winner’s cash prize signifies a significant boost to the league’s prestige and financial rewards for the participating teams. It not only reflects FNB’s dedication to women’s football in Namibia but also serves as a motivation for the clubs to excel and raise the overall standard of the league.
While celebrating this increase in the winner’s cash prize, the FNB WSL is also exploring ways to further enhance the support provided to the participating clubs. It was revealed during the league launch that grants to the teams would see an increase in the upcoming season. The 2023/24 season which kicks off on the 11 November 2023, will see teams playing double headers throughout the season.
