The Divundu Village Council is planning to establish a corridor truck port to serve as a key terminal for the Kavango West, Kavango East, and Zambezi regions.

The facility is expected to cater to trucks transporting goods to countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking to the Windhoek Observer, Divundu Village Council Chairperson Katoyima Kupembona outlined the council’s vision for this ambitious project.

“Divundu is well-positioned to have such a state-of-the-art port. But to pull this off, we as a council are engaging various stakeholders to come on board to look at ways how to go about it. But this will require a lot of money,” he said.

Divundu, which was proclaimed a village council seven years ago, has seen various developments since its establishment.

Kupembona explained that the envisioned truck port would allow local trucks to transport goods from Walvis Bay to Divundu, where other designated trucks could take over the delivery.

This setup would reduce long-distance driving for local operators.

However, he expressed concerns about potential delays at the ministerial level, an issue he said has hindered many projects in the past.

“Often, when the council passes resolutions and sends them to the line ministry for approval, it takes way too long, and this has halted many good proposed projects from taking off,” he said.

Kupembona, who was re-elected as chairperson last year for a 12-month term, is determined to see the project progress before his tenure ends.
