The Namibian Police made strides in combating drug-related crime at the coast, with the arrest of several suspected drug dealers in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund over the weekend.

The targeted operations, conducted by the police’s drug enforcement unit, resulted in multiple arrests and the confiscation of various illicit substances.

According to the police’s weekend crime report, the first major operation took place in Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay, on Friday.

Members of the drug enforcement unit raided a house in Brandberg Street, where two Namibian men, aged 25 and 35, were apprehended.

“The suspects were found in possession of 815 grams of skunk cannabis, four grams of cocaine, and N$7 120 in cash,” the police revealed.

The total value of the seized drugs and cash amounted to N$42 750.

The men have been charged with dealing in cannabis and cocaine, as well as money laundering.

In another operation later that day, a 58-year-old man, already on the police’s wanted list for similar offences, was arrested at a house in Martin Billy Street, also in Kuisebmond.

During the raid, the police discovered half a gram of skunk cannabis and a block of crack cocaine. The suspect now faces additional charges related to the possession and dealing in drugs.

The crackdown continued into the early hours of Saturday morning.

At approximately 00:05, police arrested two men, aged 17 and 38, in Theo Ben Gurirab Street, Walvis Bay.

They were found with five half mandrax tablets and a block of crack cocaine, with a total value of N$680.

In Swakopmund, the police carried out an arrest in the Mondesa suburb later that morning.

A 25-year-old man was taken into custody at a shopping complex after a body search revealed six units of crack cocaine valued at N$600.

This arrest took place at around 2:36.

All suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday to face charges relating to drug possession and dealing.

The Namibian Police’s public relations division stated that the weekend operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and related crimes in the Erongo region.
