When last did you drink at least three glasses of water a day? When most of us are asked this question around this time; we are too quick to reply: “Oh I had coffee twice today,” or “I passed by a face and a latte/ cappuccino.” We are too hooked on hot beverages and have forgotten about our favourite juice and cold drinks, and most importantly water.
A few weeks or months down the line when you start to have acne breakouts or can’t lose that extra winter weight, you wonder what you have been doing wrong. Have you paid your water debt? I know most of us think it’s a cliché when we are being told to drink at least 2 litres of water each day. I am not saying we should follow this rule by the letter. I am also one of those people who stock up on coffee and forget all cold beverages including water during cold times. I didn’t even realise this until I started feeling bloated and lazy all the time. My energy levels dropped and I couldn’t really do my workouts without feeling exhausted immediately and I would start having headaches out of the blue. This is when I figured that it could be dehydration.
There is a Slovakian saying that pure water is the world’s first and foremost medicine. This is no lie. There are people out there who are suffering from health problems that they could have prevented if they had just paid their water debt. Lack of water in the body can cause chronic dehydration which can cause mild sicknesses like headaches and constipation and eventually lead to severe conditions like kidney problems.
While we’re too pressed about drinking coffee to be warm, let’s not forget that coffee is a diuretic. This means that it triggers the body to produce urine because it increases blood flow to the kidneys. This makes you urinate a lot which means you are losing a lot of water through urination. Note that water is needed in order for your body to perform its daily vital functions. Most processes that happen in the body take place in water solutions. Without enough water these processes cannot take place and the body cannot flush out toxins. This in turn leads to a build-up of toxic waste in the body that can be harmful.
As for fellow ladies who want to have flawless skin, trying out countless skin products and grabbing all facemasks in shops but nothing seems to work out, have you paid your water debt? There are also those trying to throw away extra kilos. You are eating healthy and paying all your vegetable debt but the weight doesn’t want to let go of you. You are not doing something wrong. You just need to remember to not forget one major ingredient of weight loss-water. Water is needed to aid digestion and get all nutrients transported to the body parts where they are needed. Some are obsessed with growing their hair, following countless YouTube hair regimen videos by the letter, but there seems to be no progress. Sometimes the problem is from within. So drink your water.
And to those who are always complaining about headaches and are gulping painkillers every day, consider this: A headache is the first and clearest indication of dehydration. What are you waiting for? Fill up and drink up!
Let’s keep in mind that our outside appearance is a clear reflection of the condition inside our bodies. Drink enough water and lean up all the junk and build-up on the inside, you’ll see outside clearing itself out eventually.
