FAO donates freezers to store vaccines

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has donated a freezer room and a cold storage room valued at approximately N$500,000 to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform’s Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) to store animal medicine.The donation, according to a statement on Thursday, was made to the directorate’s satellite office in Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West region.These facilities are intended to aid in the fight against animal diseases and improve overall livestock health in regions north of the veterinary cordon fence.Sara Gottlieb, the State Veterinarian in Nkurenkuru, said that previously, they had to store vaccines in Rundu, a…

Five members of the SWAPO Party have taken legal action against their own party, seeking to invalidate a key decision made by the party's central committee to postpone the extraordinary congress to 19 April 2025. The former secretary general of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF), Esau Chiviya, has died. Chiviya, a Zimbabwean who served at the helm of the regional interparliamentary body, died on Monday (3 June) in Windhoek, according to a statement by the forum. His body will be repatriated to Zimbabwe for burial. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Peter Katjavivi, led parliament on Tuesday, observing a minute of silence in memory of Chiviya.

Plane carrying Malawi’s Vice President missing

An aircraft carrying Malawi's Vice President, Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine others went missing on Monday. Chilima was aboard a Malawi Defence Force aircraft that left the capital, Lilongwe, at 09h17 local time. Colleen Zamba, President Lazarus Chakwera's secretary, made this announcement in an official statement. Zamba said the Malawi Defence Force aircraft failed to make a scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport in Lilongwe. "All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the aircraft since it went off the radar have failed thus far," he said. NFA proposes renaming of technical centre

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has proposed renaming its technical centre to the late Elliot Paul Hiskia (known as Hampau), to the executive council.NFA general secretary Charles Siyauya says the renaming is honouring Hiskia's invaluable contribution to the sport and remembering his legacy.The late Hampau as many used to call him passed on in 2021.
