National Council evaluates NamRA’s operation

The National Council's Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Economy has begun evaluating the operations of NamRA.The committee will specifically examine customs and excise operations to evaluate their impact on business activities and the Namibian economy as a whole.It will also assess the efficiency, effectiveness, and applicability of taxation, revenue, and customs duties collection and examine the effective taxation of exports from the extractive industry.So far the committee covered the Omaheke, //Kharas, and Erongo regions.Reporter: Stefanus Nashama

MVA Fund extends condolences to victims of Otavi-Otjiwarongo road accident

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has extended its sincere condolences to the families affected by the tragic car accident on the Otavi-Otjiwarongo road.The accident happened at around midday on Tuesday, about 20 kilometres from Otavi, claiming nine lives and causing multiple injuries.The Fund urged drivers to be vigilant and responsible, especially with the increased traffic flow due to the current school holidays.In the past week, 51 road crashes were recorded.MVA Fund's year-to-date statistics state that 1 282 crashes occurred which resulted in 2 362 injuries and 178 fatalities.Reporter: Hertta-Maria Amutenja

MTC’s internship programme receives N$200 000

The MTC Namibia National Internship Programme (NNIP) has received a N$200 000 contribution from the Momentum Metropolitan Empowerment Trust (MMET).This was announced by MTC chief marketing and corporate affairs officer, Tim Ekandjo on Tuesday.The internship provides students with integrated learning opportunities while also gaining work experience.In terms of sustainability, MTC commits an amount of N$2 million to the programme annually.Momentum became the fourth corporate entity to aid the programme, joining the likes of Old Mutual, Standard Bank and MTC. Children assessed for malnutrition

Namibia receives humanitarian support against hunger

Niël Terblanché The Government of the State of Qatar has donated 102 tons of food parcels to Namibia, aimed at alleviating the severe drought-induced food insecurity plaguing the country. THOUSANDS REGISTERED:

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has registered a total number of 187 171 Namibians who are eligible to vote both inside the country and abroad.The number represents an average of 31 195 voters per day over a period of six days.This was announced on Thursday by the ECN’s chief electoral and referenda officer, Peter Shaama.The General Registration of Voters commenced on 3 June and will continue until 1 August.Shaama made it clear that there will not be a supplementary registration period this year.He urged eligible voters to ensure they register before the deadline.Report: Martin Endjala.
