Nurse ordered to pay costs in defamation case

The Windhoek High Court yesterday ordered a nurse from northern Namibia to pay the legal costs of businessman Shapwa Kanyama and his wife Beata Kanyama.The order follows a defamation lawsuit against Mathilde Kadhikwa.The Kanyama couple is suing Kadhikwa for N$400 000 over remarks made on social media on 30 May 2022.These remarks came days after the couple's N$10 million wedding on 27 May 2022 in Oniipa, Oshikoto region.Earlier this year Kadhikwa summoned the minister of health Kalumbi Shangula and his executive director Ben Nangombe to testify.Shangula is excused from attendance, but Nangombe must attend court on 17 July.The case is…

Oshigambo school to remain closed

The Oshigambo High School in the Oshikoto region will not resume its second semester due to a lack of funds. MTC gives update on service outage

Following the power outage that affected large parts of Windhoek last night people from all over Namibia were left without cell service.In a statement, MTC explained that the power outage in Windhoek occurred in an area where most of its core systems are located. Two-thirds of Namibians believe that corruption in the country is getting worse.This is according to the Afrobarometer survey released earlier this month.The survey shows that a large majority of people believe that at least some representatives and officials in government, civil society, and business are involved in corruption.According to the survey, most citizens say the government is doing a poor job of fighting corruption and that ordinary people risk retaliation if they speak out.
