The severe and continuous drought in Namibia has prompted President Nangolo Mbumba to declare a National State of Emergency.The official declaration was published in the Government Gazette.“Under Article 26 (I) of the Namibian constitution, read together with section 30 (3) of the Disaster Risk Management Act, 2012 (Act. No. 10 of 2012), I declare that, with effect from 22 May 2024, a State of Emergency exists in Namibia on account of the persisting national disaster of drought that exists in all the regions of the Republic of Namibia,” the presidency stated in the Government Gazette.

The University of Namibia (UNAM), on Tuesday, promoted Lesley Blaauw to full professor in political studies and social activist, Job Amupanda to associate professor from the rank of senior lecturer in the same department. At the age of 36, Amupanda became Namibia's youngest associate professor. City of Windhoek in its congratulatory message issued on Wednesday. Commended Amupanda, on his commitment to academic excellence and advancing political studies. "We at CoW are proud of his accomplishments and recognition he has achieved within the academic fraternity," read the message. Amupanda is a local authority councillor at the CoW. MINOR ACCUSED OF RAPE

 A 14-year-old boy from the Oshitundu village near Oshikuku is facing arrest after a social worker discovered that he repeatedly raped his nine-year-old sister. Tresia Iiyambo, a social worker, registered the case with the Namibian Police in Oshikuku after she found out that the boy committed the crime of rape and incest on several occasions between February and May this year. The National Unity Democratic Organisation’s (NUDO) Secretary General, Joseph Kauandenge has decided to withdraw from the party’s internal presidential race. NUDO Parliamentary Executive Secretary, Kavetjiko Zaongara announced on Tuesday that Kauandenge will not contest for any position at the party’s elective congress slated for 13 July 2024. “After further reflection, he has decided to withdraw his candidacy to run for the presidential position, and neither will he run for any other positions at the upcoming elective congress.
