Electricity tariffs increased by 8.97 percent

Martin Endjala The Electricity Control Board has resolved to increase the National Utility Nampower average bulk electricity tariffs by 8.97 percent from its initial request of 16.87 percent, meaning that the approved tariff has been increased from N$1.82 to N$1.98 per kilowatt-hour for the 2023/24 financial year. The increase was announced today by ECB Chief Executive Officer, Robert Kahimise, who said that increase is in accordance with existing legal provisions. Hertta-Maria Amiutenja The state has withdrawn its bribery charge against Advcocate Eliaser Nekwaya, who was arrested last weekend after he allegedly attempted to bribe police officers with N$ 10 000, after his associate, Lawyer Henry Shimutwikeni was arrested on allegations of driving under the influence of alcohol. Sources revealed that the lawyers were coming from a popular night club in Windhoek before they were intercepted by police officers. Niël Terblanché The Prime Minister of Namibia, Saara Kuukongelwa-Amadhila was rushed to hospital for observation after her official vehicle collided with a mini bus, some 15 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo, yesterday afternoon.
