In an unusual series of events, Bucks Buccaneers Football Club has made swift changes to its technical team within just three days.
In a statement issued on 5 April, the club announced that Head Coach Nicholas Woody Jacobs and Striker Coach Geoffrey Roman had been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
Following their departure, the club said Bertus Bock would step in as interim head coach, assisted by former national team player Rudi Louw.
However, just three days later, on 8 April 2025, the club issued a follow-up statement announcing the appointment of Ronny Kanalelo as the new head coach.
The club announced this on Tuesday, stating that Kanalelo brings extensive experience and a proven track record that aligns with the team’s goal of improving performance this season and beyond.
“Coach Kanalelo is best known for his exceptional leadership as the former head coach of Namibia’s men’s national team and African Stars. Under his guidance, African Stars achieved remarkable success, including championship victories in the Debmarine Premiership and the Pstbet NFA Cup,” the club said in a statement.
The club credited Kanalelo’s previous success to his tactical knowledge and ability to build strong, resilient teams.
“His championship success has developed a strong reputation for fostering a winning mentality among his players. His commitment to excellence, combined with his deep understanding of the sport, makes him the perfect fit for Bucks Buccaneers as we embark on this new chapter,” it added.
The club expressed confidence that Kanalelo’s leadership will help turn the team’s season around. Bucks Buccaneers currently sit in the relegation zone with 13 points from 15 matches.
This weekend, the team will face Young African on Saturday at Independence Stadium in Windhoek, followed by a match against African Stars on Sunday at the same venue
