In a startling breach of public safety, a daring robbery unfolded at the Monte Christo Service Station in the Lafrenz Industrial area of Windhoek on Tuesday.
The brazenness of the act sent shockwaves throughout the community.
According to the incident report provided by the Public Relations Division of the Namibian Police, the incident occurred at approximately 10:20 AM on Tuesday when three armed assailants executed the audacious robbery.
Brandishing pistols, the trio, according to the report, launched their attack by menacing the service station’s cashiers, before brazenly making their way to the manager’s office.
Their target was three cash boxes scheduled for collection by the cash-in-transit service of G4S.
The report states that the robbers had seized the day’s takings, amounting to a staggering N$789,707 in less than a minute.
Eyewitness accounts describe the suspects fleeing the scene in a blue Mazda Demio, driven by a fourth accomplice, waiting as the getaway driver.
The vehicle’s swift departure left the service station staff and bystanders in a state of disbelief and fear.
The Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division stated that no arrests were made or any of the stolen money was recovered.
The police called on the public to provide any information that may lead to the apprehension of the suspects involved in this brazen crime.
The incident serves as a disturbing reminder of the challenges facing businesses and law enforcement agencies in safeguarding assets and ensuring public safety in the face of increasingly bold criminal undertakings.
The Namibian Police also called for vigilance, collaboration, and innovative approaches to deter and respond to criminal acts that threaten the peace and prosperity of the country’s communities.
