The Brave Gladiators have advanced to the next round of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers after defeating Eswatini 1-0 on Wednesday at Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

This victory, combined with their 3-0 win in the first leg last week, secured a 4-0 aggregate win.

Head coach Woody Jacobs acknowledged the challenge posed by Eswatini, who pressured Namibia from the start.

“Some expected us to run over them, but Eswatini is a team that has improved over the years; I saw them at COSAFA in 2021 and 2022. So I am just glad we won the game under difficult circumstances because it is always difficult to motivate a team that has already beaten 3-0,” said Jacobs.

Before the match, Namibia Football Association (NFA) General Secretary Charles Siyauya urged the team to secure their place in WAFCON and make history for Namibian women’s football.

He explained the significance of reaching the continental tournament, calling it a source of national pride.

Siyauya praised the team’s conduct, professionalism, and unity, which reflect the values of the NFA.

“As you step onto the field, I urge you to go all out. Leave nothing behind. Play with the same passion, determination, and teamwork that brought you victory in the first leg. Seal this victory, secure our passage, and etch your names into the annals of Namibian football history,” said Siyauya.

He also reminded the team to honour the legacy of the founding president, Sam Nujoma, whose efforts for independence created opportunities for Namibians to represent their country internationally.

“As you play, remember his legacy and the sacrifices made for our freedom. A victory today would be a fitting and heartfelt tribute to his memory, a moment of joy and unity for a grieving nation. You carry the hopes and dreams of every Namibian on your shoulders. Know that we are with you every step of the way. Believe in yourselves, trust in your abilities, and play with the heart of a champion,” said Siyauya.
