Ministry of Health assures support to wheelchair-bound people

Martin Endjala The Ministry of Health and Social Service has advised those in need of wheelchairs not to apply for wheelchairs on the own, and rather consult with the ministry before they order the walking aid machine. The chief occupational therapist in the Khomas Region, Kristen Muesse warned wheelchair bound people may end up paying more than they would have ordered it through the ministry. Muesse made the remark yesterday when he was speaking at the Government’s Information Centre. Basic Income Grant could have supported the economy during lockdown …as government borrowed N$30.6 m daily

Tujoromajo Kasuto A new report by Simonis Storm Securities (SSS), reveals that a temporary basic income grant would have gone a long way in providing support to those who lost their jobs, businesses or income as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. Once economic indicators demonstrated a meaningful recovery, the basic income grant could have been phased out to avoid dependency and to encourage people to seek employment. This policy intervention would have increased government debt and widened the budget deficit, but it would have supported the economy given that consumer spending is 70 percent of the Gross Domestic…

Namibia needs to ideologically find, define “shared prosperity”, and the route thereto

Kae Matundu-Tjiparuro True to the theme of the country’s 32nd Independence Anniversary celebrations, “A People United for Prosperity”, a common thread was discernible through most of the interventions of those who took to the podium, from the Director of Ceremonies to the Vote of Thanks, all in tandem with the keynote address by His Excellency, Dr Hage Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia. The common thread being from one continuum to the other, the peace and stability that the country has been enjoying for the last 32 years, to the reality check that nothing has as yet been won,…

REAL ESTATE JOINT: Kiss the ‘frogs’ for the house bargains

Malcolm Ndjiharine “Think outside the trash…RECYCLE.” That’s a quote that moves in the circles of the environmental conscious folks in society, which I think can perfectly fit in real estate as well. Last year there was an ‘auntie’ that wanted to sell her 3 bedroom house which was in a very bad state, almost to say it was like trash or an ugly frog (if I could share the pictures you would agree). She told me she wanted to sell it for N$735 000 so I brought in a cash buyer to look at the house and I told her…

Everyone Is Married At 24…Four Things I’ve Learned In My 20s

NAMEYA JACOBS Nothing humbles you quite like a picture captioned, “I said yes!”. It’s come to the point where I don’t follow anyone from high school on Instagram anymore because, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I do not care. Not in a, “I’m not happy for you” kind of way, (I’m not, I’m really not), but in a, “thank you for this not-so-friendly friendly reminder that I’m not engaged. Again” way. Watching the people I went to school with grow out of the boxes I expected them to stay in has made me reflect on…
