In the heart of Namibian football history lies the storied journey of Black Buffaloes FC, a club that has weathered the high and lows of the sport since its establishment in 1968 in the Zambezi Region. From humble beginnings to moments of winning and losing, the Black Buffaloes have carved out a significant presence in the Zambezi Regional Leagues.
Formed in 1968, Black Buffaloes FC officially joined the Zambezi League, the Former Caprivi league in 1972, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey that would span decades. Their inaugural years were marked by determination as they navigated the competitive football scene of the then Caprivi Region (Now Zambezi).
It was in the late 1990s that Black Buffaloes FC truly came into their own, securing a spot in the first division from the 1998/1999 season to the 2003/2004 season. These were the years of glory, as the team showcased their skill and passion on the field, earning accolades and admiration from fans across the reggion.
Among the many highlights of Black Buffaloes’ illustrious history is their memorable encounter with powerhouse Black Africa in the NFA Cup of 2010. Facing off against national team players such as Lolo Goraseb, the Katupose brothers, and Bryan Bantam, under the guidance of Brave Warriors national team coach Brian Isaacs, Black Buffaloes FC displayed their mettle against formidable opponents. Though the match ended in a 12-1 loss, it was a testament of their spirit and resilience.
Despite facing challenges in recent years, including relegation to the second division, Black Buffaloes FC continues to embody the passion for the game. As the new season kicked off this past weekend, the team demonstrated their determination with a commendable performance. Securing a draw against Blue Chiefs and another draw against Space Age, in their attempt to reclaiming their position among the regional football elite.
