Baron Brown Makes History with the Inauguration of Walvis Bay’s First Women’s Soccer Team

Walvis Bay, Erongo – Former goalkeeper coach for Blue Waters FC and Eleven Arrows, Baron Brown, has etched his name in history by founding the first-ever women’s soccer team in Walvis Bay.

This historic initiative, supported by former Namibian international footballer Lazarus Kaimbi, aims to empower young women and challenge societal norms regarding women’s participation in football.

Baron Brown, whose soccer journey began as a player for Blue Birds and later transitioned to become a renowned goalkeeper coach, is now taking on a new role as a pioneer for women’s football in Walvis Bay. His latest venture, the Desert Foxes Football Ladies Club, is set to revolutionize the local sports landscape.

“The aim is to prove to society that young women in our community are also capable of playing football like the women from other towns, to keep young women off the streets, and to improve women’s fitness,” said Brown, emphasizing the broader social impact of the initiative.

With dreams of competing in the super league and representing Walvis Bay in national competitions, Brown envisions the Desert Foxes gaining recognition not only within Namibia but also on the broader African soccer stage.

However, the journey is not without challenges. Finances and parental support pose hurdles that Brown and his team, the Desert Foxes, are determined to overcome. Brown’s vision goes beyond the field, aiming for the team’s growth to positively impact the lives of its members.

“My hope is for the team to travel to different regions throughout the country, experience different cultures, receive salaries after winning games, and hopefully upgrade their lifestyles or pay their school fees,” expressed Brown, highlighting the multifaceted aspirations of the initiative.

Recognizing the importance of nationwide awareness, Brown plans to organize gatherings and leverage social media platforms to educate the country about the significance of women’s football. The recruitment process for the Desert Foxes emphasizes a background in soccer or a keen interest in the game, as Brown’s ultimate goal is to inspire young women to view soccer not just as a hobby but also as a potential part-time career.

Baron Brown’s historic move is not only a stride forward for women’s soccer in Walvis Bay but also a testament to the transformative power of sports in empowering communities and challenging societal norms. The Desert Foxes are set to blaze a trail in Namibian women’s football, leaving an indelible mark on the local sports landscape.
