Auctioning of primary homes under scrutiny

Auctioning of primary homes under scrutiny

Martin Endjala The auctioning of primary family homes has come under scrutiny on Friday during a public consultation meeting with the Ministry of Justice on the sale of primary houses in execution of judgement. Banks, lawyers and other agencies standing to benefit from the sale of houses of the poor, Elifas Simon of the Black Business Leadership Network (BBLN) said, are colluding to auction the houses of people who have lost their jobs and as fast as they can to ensure that the poor are thrown on the street. “How do you sell a home in six months, without a…

Staff Reporter The Auditor General has given Adverse Audit opinion for two consecutive years to the Namibian Agronomic Board for the financial years ending 31 March 2020 and 31 March 2021. The agronomic board is responsible to facilitate the production, marketing and processing of controlled agronomic products, including vegetables and fruits, as well as overseeing the import and export of these products. The auditor general found that there were no supporting documents for revenue of 8.3 million dollars reflected in…

Namibia needs to ideologically find, define “shared prosperity”, and the route thereto

Kae Matundu-Tjiparuro True to the theme of the country’s 32nd Independence Anniversary celebrations, “A People United for Prosperity”, a common thread was discernible through most of the interventions of those who took to the podium, from the Director of Ceremonies to the Vote of Thanks, all in tandem with the keynote address by His Excellency, Dr Hage Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia. The common thread being from one continuum to the other, the peace and stability that the country has been enjoying for the last 32 years, to the reality check that nothing has as yet been won,…

REAL ESTATE JOINT: Kiss the ‘frogs’ for the house bargains

REAL ESTATE JOINT: Kiss the ‘frogs’ for the house bargains

Malcolm Ndjiharine “Think outside the trash…RECYCLE.” That’s a quote that moves in the circles of the environmental conscious folks in society, which I think can perfectly fit in real estate as well. Last year there was an ‘auntie’ that wanted to sell her 3 bedroom house which was in a very bad state, almost to say it was like trash or an ugly frog (if I could share the pictures you would agree). She told me she wanted to sell it for N$735 000 so I brought in a cash buyer to look at the house and I told her…

Everyone Is Married At 24…Four Things I’ve Learned In My 20s

NAMEYA JACOBS Nothing humbles you quite like a picture captioned, “I said yes!”. It’s come to the point where I don’t follow anyone from high school on Instagram anymore because, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I do not care. Not in a, “I’m not happy for you” kind of way, (I’m not, I’m really not), but in a, “thank you for this not-so-friendly friendly reminder that I’m not engaged. Again” way. Watching the people I went to school with grow out of the boxes I expected them to stay in has made me reflect on…

Wardrobe essentials every man needs

Nguundja Kandjii As a fashion writer it is important to me that the men in my life are well dressed and for the most part, they are. I sat down with commercial models and fashion bloggers known as Belly K and Mr Meando, and we talked about their wardrobe essentials. We rounded up a few items that are foundational to every men’s wardrobe, so if you are a guy who’s looking for a simple guide for a casual yet elevated wardrobe, or…

Mboweni hails SADC Model Law on PFM

Special Correspondent Mr Tito Titus Mboweni, the first Black South African to hold the post of Governor of the Bank of South Africa, has described the development of the SADC Model Law on Public Financial Management as “laudable” but stressed that political will would either make or break the initiative. Mboweni was the keynote speaker on 22 March, 2022 during a virtual consultative meeting convened by the SADC PF to enable representatives of Central Bank Governors of SADC Member States to critically consider a draft of the SADC Model Law on PFM ahead of its adoption. Mboweni, who served as…

More investments needed to ramp up fight against TB

More investments needed to ramp up fight against TB

Tujoromajo Kasuto Namibia yesterday commemorated World Tuberculosis Day with the theme “Invest to End TB. Save Lives”, which according to Dr Kalumbi Shangula, Minister of Health and Social Services, conveys the urgent need to invest resources to ramp up the fight against TB and achieve the commitments made by global leaders to end TB. This is especially critical in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic that has reversed years of progress made in the fight to end communicable disease. For the first time in over a decade, Shangula says, that TB deaths increased in 2020, putting the End TB programme…
