Martin Endjala Former Landless Peoples Movement (LPM) Councilor for the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency, Gerrit Witbooi, says he is hopeful that he will be re-elected as councilor as an independent candidate . Witbooi was suspended by LPM on accusations of being in cahoots with opposition parties to “embarrass the LPM”. Namcor anticipates more oil discoveries

Steve Nashama The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) has made a third oil discovery with partners Shell and QatarEnergy in the Jonker-1X deep-water exploration well in Block 2913A & 2914B in the Orange Basin, offshore southern Namibia. Namcor’s Managing Director, Immanuel Mulunga, says they have proven beyond reasonable doubt that the Orange Basin contains multi-billion barrels of oil and gas reserves. The company’s Spokesperson, Paulo Coelho, reveals that the drilling operations commenced in December 2022 and were completed safely early this month. The Jonker-1X discovery is the third well drilled on the license held by Shell within a year.…

Martin Endjala The Wesco Group Namibia has donated 30 tons of cements valued at around N$ 70 000 to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture in the Oshikoto region for the benefit of nine schools. Hertta-Maria Amutenja The Supreme Court today reserved judgment in a matter in which same-sex couple, Phillip Luhl and Guillermo Delgado are fighting to have their son granted Namibian citizenship status. The child was born in 2019, via surrogacy, in South Africa. Luhl, a Namibian is married to Delgado, a Mexican National. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against a 2021 ruling in the High Court declaring that the couple’s first-born child be granted citizenship by descent.
