Seven suspects who stand accused of assaulting a 15-year-old girl at Olukonda village, in the Oshikoto Region recently, have been granted bail of N$300 each.
The incident unfolded on Saturday, 13 January this year, when the suspects allegedly tied the victim to a tree and subjected her to a brutal assault with a fan belt, accusing her of stealing N$200 from a house.
“The incident was reported on 23 January 2024 when the victim started school after the holidays. For safety reasons, the victim has been placed at Onandjokwe State Hospital by a social worker,” said the Namibian Police’s spokesperson in the Oshikoto region, Ellen Nehale.
Nehale said the suspects, ranging from a 42-year-old Namibian male (the victim’s uncle) to a 20-year-old Namibian male, include individuals from Onamulunga village and Okaloko – Olukonda village who appeared in court last week Friday.
“There are 7 known suspects, including a 42-year-old Namibian male who is the victim’s uncle and resides in the same house.
The other suspects include a 32-year-old female and a 27-year-old Namibian female, both from Onamulunga village and residing in the same house as the victim.
Additionally, there is a 26-year-old Namibian male from Onamulunga village who is a neighbour to the victim, a 51-year-old Namibian male from Okaloko – Olukonda village, and a 42-year-old Namibian female from Okaloko – Olukonda village. There is also a 20-year-old Namibian male from Okaloko – Olukonda village,” said Nehale.
