The Central Coordinating Committee (CCC) of the All People’s Party (APP), has announced that the party’s fourth National Congress is set for 2 to 4 August at a venue yet to be confirmed.
Daniel Djami, the APP’s secretary for information and media relations, said 300 delegates are expected to attend.
“This includes the CCC, youth, and women’s wings. Nominations for the top 8 positions will be made at the congress, and regional restructuring in the remaining four regions, namely, Hardap, Ohangwena, Oshana, and Oshikoto, will be completed before Congress,” he said.
The CCC also resolved to amend some parts of the party constitution and adopt its manifesto to be conducted at its congress.
Djami confirmed that despite the congress being held close to election time and the suspension of its interim president, they are ready.
The interim president, Erastus Shuumbwa, was suspended with immediate effect on 23 May.
The suspension, according to Djami, will allow the committee time to investigate allegations of contravening the party’s constitution levelled against Shuumbwa.
Additionally, the party accuses him of violating its code of conduct and set of ethics.
Djami said further details and suspension conditions are outlined in the letter of suspension served to him on 23 May.
“The party’s highest decision-making body, the Central Coordinating Committee, at its meeting on 18 May, decided to suspend its interim president until the congress and instead appointed its National Chairperson, Linus Muchila, to lead the party in his capacity and not in an acting capacity so that the party could carry out its normal party activities,” said Djami.
He explained that a special committee had been set up to investigate the allegations levelled against the interim party president.
