The Namibian Defence Force (NDF) is set to host the 9th Edition of its Annual Games in Grootfontein from 29 July to 04 August 2024.

This year, the event is organized by the Namibian Air Force and will take place at the Lt Gen Dimo Hamaambo Garrison’s Sports Grounds and Omulunga Stadium under the theme “Forging Resilience Through Sport.”

The primary goal of the NDF Annual Games is to enhance both the physical and mental fitness of the soldiers.

It also serves as an important platform for showcasing the diverse skills and talents of NDF personnel, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and unity among the troops.

The competition includes various sports such as football, volleyball, netball, darts, chess, pool, boxing, and athletics.

In a statement, the NDF highlighted the significance of these games in promoting resilience, strength, and the indomitable spirit of military personnel.

The public is invited to join and support the participants, thereby reinforcing the bond between the military and the civilian community.

Last year’s games that were held in Oshakati, showcased remarkable athletic talent and competitive spirit.

Noteworthy performances included Corporal Wilhelm Hangula of the Special Forces winning the 10-kilometer marathon race with a time of 33 minutes and 44 seconds, narrowly missing the previous record.

The event also saw strong participation from various units, with the Composite Depot Netball Team aiming for their fourth consecutive trophy and the 26Bde defending their soccer title.

At the time, Air Marshall Martin Pinehas, the Chief of Namibian Defense Force, stressed the importance of these games in learning and embracing the diversity that strengthens the force’s collective spirit.

The focus of the upcoming games will be concentrated on resilience and unity.

According to the statement, the public’s presence and support will be highly valued, not only to encourage the participants but also to celebrate the close ties between the military and the community.
