The board of directors of Alpha Namibia Industries Renewable Power Limited (ANIREP) have announced that the company has entered into an agreement to acquire an additional equity stake in HopSol Africa (Proprietary) Limited, increasing its ownership in the entity to 100%.
HopSol Africa, a leading Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) company specialising in renewable energy projects, has been a pivotal partner in advancing ANIREP’s vertically integrated renewable energy strategy.
The company said this acquisition underscores ANIREP’s commitment to strengthening its position in Namibia’s renewable energy sector and enhancing its operational capacity to deliver sustainable and innovative energy solutions.
It added that the acquisition aligns with ANIREP’s growth strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio and consolidate its market position as a key enabler of Namibia’s transition to a greener and more sustainable energy future.
The transaction is subject to the fulfilment of all regulatory approvals as required by the Namibia Stock Exchange (NSX) and other relevant authorities.
ANIREP said the rationale for the acquisition include enhanced integration and consolidating ANIREP’s stake in HopSol Africa will optimize synergies across the group’s Independent Power Producer (IPP), Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC), and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities.
It added that strengthened market position will increase stake positions ANIREP as a dominant player in the renewable energy value chain in Namibia.
In terms of revenue growth, the company said the acquisition is expected to boost group revenue through enhanced project delivery and expanded operational capacity.
“The board is confident that this strategic investment will yield significant long-term value for ANIREP’s shareholders and contribute meaningfully to Namibia’s renewable energy objectives.”
The company aims to further increase its capacity by 70MWp by the 2025/2026 year-end, with a long-term goal of surpassing 200MW. This growth aligns with Namibia’s renewable energy targets, aiming to reach 760MW by 2030.
ANIREP’s renewable energy projects include Aussenkehr Solar One Namibia, Otjiwarongo Expansion, and Dundee Precious Metal Tsumeb.
These projects are anticipated to expand ANIREP’s Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio to over 65MWp. Namibia’s Harambee Prosperity Plan, seeks to increase commercial renewable energy generation from the current 212 MW Solar PV capacity to 760 MW by 2030.
Namibia is currently facing an energy deficit, leading to the importation of electricity from the region.
The country’s goal is to become a net exporter of renewable electricity by 2030.
