An ANIREP-led joint venture with TotalEnergies S.A.S and Sinco Investment One Hundred Seventy-Eight (Pty) Ltd has been selected for the award of the 20MWac Okatope Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Project.
Alpha Namibia Industries Renewable Power Limited (ANIREP) announced that NamPower had issued a notice for selection of award to the joint venture.
The selection remains subject to a final award and the execution of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and related agreements with NamPower.
The Okatope project is one of six projects being procured by NamPower from independent power producers through a competitive international bidding process aimed at increasing Namibia’s locally generated renewable energy capacity.
Subject to the final award and execution of the PPA, the project will have approximately 25.15MWdc of installed solar PV capacity and an export capacity of 20MWac.
The project will be located near the Okatope Substation in the Oshikoto Region and is expected to generate approximately 64GWh of electricity in its first full year of operation.
The project will be developed by the joint venture under a development agreement between ANIREP, TotalEnergies and Sinco.
ANIREP said the partnership combines its local renewable energy development and operating capabilities with TotalEnergies’ international experience in developing, financing and operating renewable energy projects.
ANIREP managing director Iyaloo Ya Nangolo said the company looked forward to working with NamPower and its partners to conclude the PPA and deliver the project under the Modified Single Buyer framework.
He said the joint venture also saw opportunities for innovative structures and funding models to serve private-sector customers through an aggregation model in Namibia and the wider SADC region.
The company’s subsidiary, HopSol Africa, will provide technical capabilities through its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance (O&M) activities.
TotalEnergies EP Namibia managing director and country chair Mariam Kane-Garcia said the selection reflected TotalEnergies’ commitment to supporting Namibia’s energy development through a multi-energy approach.
She said the company looked forward to working with NamPower, ANIREP and Sinco to deliver a project that would contribute to electricity supply and the growth of renewable energy generation in Namibia.
