Alpha Namibia Industries Renewable Power Limited (ANIREP) informed shareholders this week that it has successfully fulfilled its Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) obligations for the Omburu 26.134MWp Solar PV Project and the issuance of the performance certificate by NamPower.

The company said this significant achievement reflects ANIREP’s Group commitment to delivering high-quality renewable energy solutions.

ANIREP said as part of obligations outlined in the contract signed on 16th December 2020, between the HopSol Africa Pty Ltd / Tulive Private Equity Pty Joint Venture and NamPower and the Central Procurement Board of Namibia, shareholders were notified that the contractor has been granted a performance certificate by NamPower as of 28 June 2024.

“This certification marks the fulfilment of the contracted works for the Omburu 20MW Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant,” the company said.

ANIREP said this milestone indicates that the contractor has successfully completed the project to the satisfaction of the employer, ensuring compliance with all specified requirements and standards.

ANIREP was created to provide a bridge for capital markets into infrastructural renewable energy projects. The company intends to provide investors with solid, predictable, and long-term yielding investments generating a consistent return on equity over the long term.

The company’s projects include the 25MWp PV plant in Khan currently under construction, the installation of 6.8 MWp of Solar PV and a 3 MWp/9MWh Battery Energy Storage System in Otjiwarongo, and the establishment of an 25MWp PV power plant at Kokerboom, to supply power to Dundee Precious Metals.

Namibia is currently facing an energy deficit, leading to the importation of electricity from the region. The country’s goal is to become a net exporter of renewable electricity by 2030. The National Integrated

Resource Plan projects that 70% or more of the country’s installed electricity capacity will be derived from renewable sources by 2030. Namibia possesses abundant wind and solar resources, positioning it to be one of the most cost-effective regions for renewable energy production.

ANIREP aims to attain a 30% market share in the renewable energy sector, by pursuing renewable energy installations for contested buyers, exploring acquisition opportunities, fostering capacity development initiatives, and engaging in engineering, procurement, and construction and operations and maintenance projects.

The company aims to further increase its capacity by 70MWp by the 2025/2026 year-end, with a long-term goal of surpassing 200MW. This growth aligns with Namibia’s renewable energy targets, aiming to reach 760MW by 2030. ANIREP listed on the Namibian Stock Exchange (NSX) in 2019 as part of its expansion plans.
