The lawyers representing Michael Amushelelo say that he is being kept in solitary confinement out of fear that he will politically influence other inmates.
Amushelelo was arrested in March after a failed youth protest against unemployment. He was arrested alongside Parliamentarian Inna Hengari and Activist Dimbulukweni Nauyoma, who have both been released on bail. Amushelelo today appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s court. Kadhila Amoomo his lawyer said the state still opposes the granting of bail. Amushelelo is appealing the refusal of bail in the High court and the matter will be heard in June.
