Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) activist, Michael Amushelelo denied allegations that he made bomb threats against the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC).
The claims surfaced after NBC employees reportedly underwent body and vehicle searches following Amushelelo’s visit to the corporation.
During his visit, there were allegations that he mentioned the existence of activists within NBC who could potentially disrupt the corporation.
On 12 December, Amushelelo addressed the allegations, referring to NBC as the “Swapo Broadcasting Corporation.”
“This is another lie being told by SBC, cooked up by the State Intelligence Service,” he said.
Amushelelo claimed that the NBC was lying in order to bring false legal charges against him.
“They are doing this because I have it on good authority that they want to create bogus charges against me and charge me with terrorism charges, as well as espionage charges and treason,” he said.
Commenting on the suspension of NBC’s political and investigative editor, Anna Nicodemus, Amushelelo suggested her suspension was the beginning of a wider purge.
“Anna was just the first casualty. Today it is Anna, tomorrow Michael Amushelelo until everyone starts speaking lies instead of truth,” he said.
Amushelelo also criticised the government, describing it as corrupt and incapable of handling dissent.
“We have a corrupt, weak and pathetic government. If one little small boy can give them such sleepless nights whilst they have intelligence, police, army and the entire control of the state machinery. It is very clear and evident that this new incoming fraudulently elected government is going to do everything in its power to silence all speakers of truth,” he said.
