African Stars, the reigning Debmarine Namibia Premier League champions, are still searching for a head coach nearly two weeks after Fillemon Ronny Kanalelo resigned.
African Stars chairman, Salomo Hei confirmed on Thursday that the recruitment process has begun, with the position already advertised.
He said the club has received strong interest from various candidates.
‘’We are still in the process, and we have been inundated with people interested in the position, but the final decision has not been made yet. But as soon we finalise the process we will let the public know,’’ said Hei.
Kanalelo, who was appointed in February 2024, resigned on 4 February despite leading the team to the semi-finals of the inaugural MTC Maris Cup, which was set to take place this weekend in Mariental.
However, with all sporting activities suspended during the national mourning period for Founding President Sam Nujoma, it remains unclear when the MTC Maris Cup semi-finals will still take place.
Kanalelo previously guided African Stars to the league title and led them in the 2023/24 Total Energies CAF Champions League.
The team was eliminated in the preliminary round by Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy.
