The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) has won the National Oil Company of the Year accolade for the second year running at the Africa Energies Summit, which took place from 17 to 19 May in London.
Managing Director Immanuel Mulunga says that this means “our peers and the international stakeholders recognize what Namcor has achieved and the growth it has experienced in the past few years. “
He explains exclusively to the Windhoek Observer that the winners are nominated and voted for virtually by the conference attendees during the gathering and thus Namcor has been transformed into a true African integrated National Oil Company.
Individually, Mulunga also scooped the legend award at the African Energies Summit 2022 for outstanding contribution to the energy sector in Africa.
“I won the Legend Award for an outstanding contribution in the Energy Sector at the Africa Energies Summit in London last week. This is a recognition of the accomplishments that I have made over the 27 years in the petroleum industry that culminated in these two very important discoveries in Namibia that were announced three months ago,” he prided himself.
The Africa Energies Summit brought together Africa’s energy industry for a unique event shaped for
companies active in Africa’s energy game and provided unrivalled insights into the Continent’s fast- changing energy landscape.
Africa Energies Summit is an annual event that takes place in London bringing together various stakeholders in the African petroleum downstream to discuss various issues that concern the industry. Mulunga has spearhead the energy cooperation for over seven years and in his first five years in office, the oil company saw 56 percent revenue growth exceeding the N$1 billion mark in his first term and this year it has skyrocketed to N$2,6 billion. He has served as Managing Director of Namcor since October 2015, where he previously served as a board member from 2005 to 2010.
Prior to joining Namcor, he served as the Petroleum Commissioner in the Ministry of Mines and Energy for over a decade, where he was tasked to facilitate and promote the Exploration and Production of oil and gas in Namibia. His experience in the oil and gas industry spans over 20 years, working primarily in the public sector for the Government of Namibia.
