THE police in Ongwediva is investigating a case of theft after N$ 28 700 was stolen from a vehicle, minutes after the victim withdrew the money from a local bank on Friday.
Nampol Spokesperson, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, says the victim, a 43-year-old employee of the International University of Namibia(IUM) withdrew the money before driving to a school near the Roman Catholic Church, to pay for his daughter’s school fees, leaving cash in the car.
“He took N$850 to go and pay for his daughter’s school fees, when he came back the money was not there. Nobody is arrested in this matter and the complainant is not suspecting anybody,”Aiyambo says.
In another incident at Ongwediva, two unknown suspects entered Hungry Lion at Oshana Mall, held the workers at gun point and robbed them of N$ 7500. Two cellphones were also stolen, according to Aiyambo.
“The total value is N$ 13 500. The suspects used a white Toyota Corolla as a getaway vehicle. The suspects in this case are unknown. No arrest has been made but investigations continue,” he adds.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old security guard from Ongwediva is receiving medical treatment after he accidentally shot himself on Saturday.
The guard, stationed at the Hifikepunye Pohamba University of Namibia (Unam)’s campus, accidentally shot himself on the left hand with a pistol when he was trying to remove a bullet that was stuck in the chamber. Police say the man sustained serious injuries.
“The victim was trying to remove a bullet that got stuck [in] the chamber and in the process the bullet went off, passed through the middle finger and caused serious injury. The victim was taken to Oshakati State Hospital for medical attention,”Aiyambo says.
