The National Correction Service (NCS) has appointed Johannes Konjore, as the Deputy Commissioner-General (DCG) for the Department of Operations effective from the 1st of November, 2021.
His appointment comes after the departure of Tuhafeni Hangula who recently retired on medical grounds on 1 October after serving for over 31 years. The appointment was announced today by Commissioner-General Raphael Hamunyela. He says they were having a lot of challenges, and there was a need for supervision and control. Hence after consultation with various senior managers and the executive, they agreed upon the promotion of DGG Konjore.
Hamunyela adds that he has high trust that he will be able to fill the position to the best of his ability as he “knows everybody”. Konjore worked in various managerial positions including as Officer in Charge, Regional Commander, Head for Human Resource Management, Commandant of the Lucius Sumbwanyambe Mahoto Correctional Service Training College.
He will be responsible for the management of five directorates, namely Security, Healthcare, Information Communication Technology, Food Production and Correctional Industries and Capital Projects as well as four administrative regions and the 14 correctional facilities under them.
The new DCG was trained in international Law Enforcement at the University of Rosewell (USA) amongst his qualifications. In addition, the Commissioner-General also promoted Deputy-Commissioner Michael Mulisa to Commissioneras Head of Human Resources Management. Mulisa was until his appointment, heading the Corporate Secretariat Division under the Directorate Central Staff.
He served in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in the Corrections Advisory Unit as Correction Mentor from May 2012 to November 2013. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Namibia.
