THE Executive Director in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana, has resigned from the Swapo Party of Namibia.
In a letter addressed to party Secretary General, Sophia Shaningwa, Ua-Ndjarakana says he was dumping the ruling party because Swapo has turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the plight of the descendants of the victims of the 1904-1908 genocide in which they lost everything including ancestral land.
An estimated 100 000 Ovaherero, 10 000 Nama and an undisclosed number of San people were annihilated in the brutal aggression unleashed on them by German colonisers.
“For example there is no single reference to our fate in Swapo reconstruction programme strategies for the past 30 years regarding the total return, restoration and restitution of the descendants of the 1904 to 1908 genocide who still find themselves in the diaspora,” he says in his resignation letter to Shaningwa, to which he attached his Swapo membership card Number C6400.
He adds that in honour of the lives of those who paid the ultimate price for the liberation of this country, and for those descendants of the genocide victims who are stuck in the diaspora but yearn to return home, he has come to the conclusion that “it is time to for me to terminate my membership with the Swapo Party effectively immediately”.
He also says he was honouring the ideals of the late national heroes Kazenambo Kazenambo (KK) and Marco Hausiku who stood for truth and restorative justice.
KK and Hausiku passed on last month and KK was given a State funeral while Hausiku has been declared a national hero by President Hage Geingob.
KK was particularly critical of the way the Government has been handling the reparations negotiations with Germany and believed Namibia got a raw deal in the compensation agreement concluded.
Germany agreed to grant Namibia about N$18,5 billion in aid over 30 years, which many Namibian leaders including late Ovaherero Paramount Chief, Vekuii Rukoro, and others including KK described as an insult.
Ua-Ndjarakana says he would remain a public servant and will be affiliated to apolitical organisations pursuing the genocide reparations issue.
