The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has officially welcomed Frednard Gideon as its new vice-chancellor after he assumed office on 1 August 2026.

A welcoming ceremony held on Tuesday formally introduced him to the university community.

Gideon brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education, including 17 years in academic leadership and 11 years in executive leadership at the University of Namibia (UNAM).

He is expected to lead NUST through its next phase of growth and transformation.

According to NUST, his appointment comes at a crucial time as the university begins implementing its Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP) 2026–2030, which aims to drive institutional transformation, innovation and sustainable impact.

The university said the new strategic plan will focus on expanding access to quality higher education, strengthening research and innovation, enhancing international partnerships and reinforcing NUST’s position as Namibia’s premier university of science and technology.

Interim council chairperson Leake Hangala expressed confidence that, under Gideon’s leadership, NUST will continue building on its strong institutional foundations while fostering excellence, innovation and global competitiveness.
