National Council Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Housing chairperson George !Garab has called for a coordinated national response to address Namibia’s growing road accident crisis, saying road safety is not only a transport issue but also a public health, economic and national development concern.
Speaking during a stakeholder engagement in Gobabis on Tuesday, !Garab said the consultations on the motion, “The Urgent Need for Critical Measures to Combat the Rising Road Accidents Crisis in Namibia,” aim to identify practical solutions to reduce road fatalities.
He called for collective action from government institutions, law enforcement agencies, the transport sector, communities and other stakeholders, with focus on safer roads, improved vehicle inspections, stronger enforcement, emergency response systems and protecting vulnerable road users.
