Telecoms and financial stocks lead market gains

Telecommunications and financial stocks drove gains on the Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX) during the week of 25 to 29 May 2026, helping offset losses recorded across several other sectors.

The overall benchmark index edged down by 0.10%, while the JSE all share index declined by 0.40%, reflecting cautious sentiment across regional markets. The NSX local index remained largely unchanged, rising by 0.01% during the week.

Telecommunications recorded the strongest growth, rising by 137.05%. Financials followed with a gain of 251.50%, making the sector one of the main contributors to market activity during the week.

Basic materials also recorded growth of 22.32%.

Several sectors ended the week lower. Real estate declined by 7.41%, while consumer discretionary and consumer staples fell by 42.84% and 37.92%, respectively.

Utilities remained unchanged. The local market closed the week with a free-float market capitalisation of N$19.53 billion.

A total of 28 702 shares were traded, generating N$393,811 in value across 11 deals.

Across the broader market, 121 754 shares changed hands, with a total value of N$10.86 million across 15 deals.

Financials remained the most active sector by value. The sector recorded a market capitalisation of N$1.33 billion, while 112 412 shares worth N$8.16 million were traded across 14 deals.

Consumer staples also recorded trading activity, with 9 342 shares worth N$2.70 million traded through one deal.

Month-to-date figures show 746 645 shares traded, generating N$16.14 million across 91 deals.

Year-to-date trading reached 6.99 million shares worth N$144.29 million across 602 deals.

Exchange-traded products (ETPs) recorded month-to-date turnover of 572 777 shares valued at N$70.08 million across 24 deals.

Year-to-date ETP trading stood at 2.04 million shares worth N$331.57 million across 126 deals.

Activity on the Development Capital Board (DevX) remained limited. A total of 857 shares worth N$29 121 were traded in one deal during the period under review.

Year-to-date DevX trading reached 417 854 shares valued at N$16.08 million across 16 deals.

Combined trading across equities, ETPs and DevX reached 46.03 million shares year-to-date, with a total value of N$3.36 billion across 2 256 deals.
