President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the late founding president Sam Nujoma continues to live on through the democratic Namibia he helped build and in the dreams of young Namibians.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said Nujoma’s legacy remains visible in the resilience of the Namibian people and the country’s commitment to peace, democracy and unity.
Nandi-Ndaitwah made this remark as she paid tribute to Nujoma as the country marked what would have been his 97th birthday.
“Today, even in his physical absence, the legacy of Dr Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma continues to live on in the democratic Namibia he helped build, in the resilience of our people, and in the dreams of young Namibians who continue to believe in the promise of a better future,” she said on Tuesday.
She said Nujoma carried the hopes of Namibians through sacrifice, exile and the liberation struggle while pushing Namibia’s case before the international community and the United Nations.
“At a time when many doubted whether freedom would ever come, he remained resolute, guided by an unshakable belief in the power of unity,” she said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah described Nujoma as one of Africa’s respected liberation leaders and a lasting symbol of pan-Africanism.
Nujoma was born on 12 May 1929 and he died on 8 February 2025.
