Advocate Lotta Ambunda was officially sworn in as an Acting Judge of the High Court on Tuesday during a ceremony held at the High Court in Windhoek.
The oath of office was administered by Justice Shafimana Ueitele, Deputy Judge President of the High Court.
Ambunda’s appointment, effective from 15 April to 31 July 2025, was made by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
According to the JSC, this will be Ambunda’s first time serving on the bench.
The JSC confirmed that Ambunda’s appointment forms part of broader efforts to enhance the judiciary’s capacity and ensure timely adjudication of matters.
“This appointment was made amid ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary’s capacity to manage caseloads and maintain public confidence in the legal system,” the Commission said.
Her swearing-in comes shortly after President Nandi-Ndaitwah also appointed two Deputy Judges-President of the High Court. Justice Ueitele and Justice Johanna Sophia (Hannelie) Prinsloo assumed their new roles on 1 April 2025.
In addition to the permanent appointments, several acting judges were named to the High Court for various terms throughout 2025.
Among them is Justice Herman Christo January, who has been reappointed.
Other acting appointments include members of the Society of Advocates who will serve limited terms on the Bench.
These are Advocates Reinhard Totemeyer, Andrew Corbett, Natasha Bassingthwaighte, and Gerson Narib.
