African Stars Football Club has appointed Bob Mafoso from Lesotho as its new head coach, following the resignation of former coach Fillemon Ronnie Kanalelo in early February.

The club announced the appointment on Monday, stating that Mafoso’s experience aligns with its ambition to secure more victories and win trophies.

“African Stars Football Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Bob Mafoso as our new head coach! A CAF ‘A’ licensed coach with over a decade of experience at the elite level, Mafoso is a proven winner with an impressive track record of league titles, cup victories, and international success,” the club said in a statement.

Mafoso’s career includes key roles in Lesotho football. He is currently the head coach of Bantu Football Club, where he won the 2022/23 Lesotho Premier League Championship and the 2023 People’s Cup.

He previously led Lioli FC to the 2022 Alliance Cup and was head coach of Bantu FC from 2019 to 2022, winning the 2019/20 Lesotho Premier League and being named Coach of the Season.

Under his leadership, Bantu also qualified for the 2020/21 CAF Champions League.

As Bantu’s assistant coach from 2016 to 2018, he helped the team win back-to-back league titles and the 2018 Independence Cup.

He currently serves as assistant coach of the Lesotho national team and played a role in guiding the team to the 2023 COSAFA Cup Final.

“As we welcome Coach Bob Mafoso to the African Stars family, we invite all our loyal fans to pack the stadiums, support the team, and be part of this exciting journey. The mission is clear—more trophies, more history, more glory,” the club stated.
