Namibian professional boxer, Charles Shinima fell short in his bid for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight title against South African boxer, Brandon Thysse over the weekend.

The fight took place at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

Shinima suffered his second professional loss as the judges awarded the victory to Thysse in a closely contested match, crowning the South African the new super welterweight champion.

Shinima’s first loss came in March 2024 against Denis Nurja, when he sustained an injury during the fight.

Reflecting on the match against Thysse, Shinima said he believed he did enough to win.

“It is what it is. Everybody who watched that fight has seen how I performed, how I was scoring, and how I outboxed Brandon Thysse. But the judges have not seen what everybody has seen and what I did, so they gave away the fight,” he said.

Shinima acknowledged the loss could harm his career but vowed to use it as motivation.

“A loss is not a good thing for my career, but I have to take it and work hard; it is fuelling me to go back to the gym and work harder so that next time I make it more clear and the judges will have no reason to give away the fight,” he said.

He thanked his team for their support during fight preparations and expressed gratitude to his sponsor for providing resources.

Since his professional debut in July 2017 against Salif Nsangou in Swakopmund, Shinima has fought 20 professional bouts, securing 18 wins and two losses.
