Netball Namibia is strengthening its presence on the international stage while working towards becoming a dominant force in both regional and global competitions.

Over the next five years, the federation aims to expand its talent pool by enhancing grassroots development and investing in better training facilities.

Speaking to Windhoek Observer on Monday, Netball Namibia Secretary-General Sofia Simon said this would require collective efforts from all stakeholders including government, private sectors, administrators, and players themselves, to grow.

Simon shared these remarks following the selection of two Namibian players, Cornelia Mupenda and Mwale Mulenamaswe, to participate in Singapore’s Netball Super League alongside other international athletes.

“This testament shows the unwavering support from our technical team, coaches, community and stakeholders. It opens doors for further opportunities, partnerships, and exposure that can help elevate the sport within our country,” she said.

The two players, who are also part of the national team Debmarine Desert Jewels, will join one of the six elite club teams in Singapore.

They are scheduled to depart on 24 February and return on 24 March.

She further stressed the inspirational impact of seeing Namibian players compete at a high level, adding that such achievements motivate young athletes to commit to training and development.

“When athletes see their peers achieving success at international levels, it fosters a sense of possibility and motivates them to commit more deeply to their training and development,” she said.

Encouraging players to aspire to compete in top-tier leagues globally, Simon noted that international exposure brings invaluable experience back to the national team.

“Ultimately, I envision Namibia consistently competing for titles, fostering a strong netball culture, and inspiring countless young athletes to excel in the sport,” she added.
