The Namibian women’s hockey team suffered its first defeat at the ongoing Indoor Hockey World Cup in Poreč, Croatia, after losing to Germany on Thursday afternoon.

Despite the loss, Namibia secured a spot in the quarter-finals after winning their first two matches.

They defeated New Zealand 7-0 in their opening game and went on to beat Australia in their second match.

Germany topped the group standings with nine points from three games, while Namibia finished second with six points.

Australia and New Zealand were eliminated after finishing third and fourth, respectively.

This marks the first time in history that the Namibian women’s team has qualified for the quarter-finals.

They will face Austria for a place in the semi-finals on Friday at 18h50 local time.

Meanwhile, the Namibian men’s team is currently third in the log standings with three points from two games.

They are set to play Australia on Thursday night at 22h20 local time in a must-win match that will determine whether they advance in the tournament or face an early exit.

The men’s team previously reached the quarter-finals in 2023 and is aiming to achieve the same feat again this year.
