The LEWCOR Group has cemented its position as a key player in Namibia’s mining and construction industries with the addition of the 100th articulated dump truck ADT to its fleet.

LEWCOR’s chief executive officer, Helmuth Lewis, said the addition of the ADT is a demonstration of the company’s dedication to innovation, economic contribution, and the betterment of Namibia’s future.

“This milestone emphasizes the company’s 36-year legacy of contributing to Namibia’s economic development through cutting-edge equipment and operational excellence,” Lewis said.

Articulated Dump Trucks, known for their superior traction and stability, are critical to Namibia’s challenging terrains, facilitating the transport of large volumes of materials such as sand, gravel, and soil.

“LEWCOR’s decision to source these vehicles exclusively from Namibian dealers not only highlights the company’s confidence in the local economy but also ensures significant contributions to domestic economic activities,” he said.

Lewis added that the fleet, valued at approximately N$1 billion, has become a symbol of LEWCOR’s unwavering commitment to Namibia’s growth.

He expressed his pride in the achievement and its broader implications.

“As a 100% Namibian company, owned and operated by Namibians, this is a proud moment for us. This milestone is important, but we are even more excited about the increasing contribution we can make to Namibia’s growth. Our ADT fleet moves around 5.5 million tons of ore and building material each month, and our operators purchase N$23 million worth of diesel monthly from local suppliers,” he said.

According to Lewis, the company’s investment has not only advanced its operations but also created employment opportunities for over 270 ADT operators.

“This continuous investment underscores our dedication to providing world-class equipment and services to our clients and affirms our confidence in Namibia’s economic progress,” he added.

Founded in 1988 by the late Chris Lewis, LEWCOR has grown into a family-run business with subsidiaries such as LEWCOR Plant Hire Oranjemund and LEWCOR Civils.

Despite its expansion, the group remains deeply rooted in its Namibian identity, with all employees being Namibian citizens.

Its vision, to be the most reliable operator and partner in Namibia’s development, drives its operations across the construction and earth-moving industries.

Lewis said that the mining and construction sectors, central to Namibia’s economic landscape, play a pivotal role in generating revenue and employment.

He added that LEWCOR’s fleet expansion reflects the importance of these industries in driving infrastructure development and natural resource extraction.

He said that these activities not only add to short-term economic growth but also improve the long-term living standards of people across the country.
