NamWater’s Chief Executive Officer, Abraham Nehemia has praised the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) for its role in developing students’ skills, fostering innovation, and contributing to solving real-world challenges in the water sector and beyond.

Speaking at NUST’s October graduation ceremony in Windhoek last week, Nehemia highlighted the collaboration between NamWater and the university.

‘’Our partnership with NUST is anchored by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which serves as a cornerstone for joint efforts in research, development, and innovation within the water sector,” said Nehemia.

Through this partnership, NamWater offers scholarships and internships to NUST students, enabling them to gain practical experience while studying.

Fields of focus include civil engineering, electrical power engineering, computer science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, and water resource management.

The MoU covers collaborative initiatives in areas such as renewable energy solutions, data infrastructure development, and sustainable water supply management.

“Together, we have achieved significant milestones through both completed and ongoing projects,’’ said Nehemia.

He added that over the past five years, NamWater has provided bursaries to eight NUST students in vital fields such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, finance and accounting, vocational education and training, and marketing.

The value of these bursaries amounts to N$1.1 million.

Namwater also facilitated 73 job attachment opportunities through work-integrated learning, valued at N$2.1 million.

“Your dedication to fostering a learning environment that prioritises sustainability, technology, and leadership resonates deeply with NamWater’s mission to build a resilient future for Namibia. We are proud to be part of this journey with you, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership in the years to come, advancing projects that will empower both students and the wider community,’’ he added.
