TransNamib Holdings Ltd and the International University of Management (IUM) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to drive innovation and development in the Namibian transport sector.
Desmond van Jaarsveld, chief executive officer of TransNamib during the signing of the agreement, said the collaboration is set to pave the way for unparalleled growth in human resource development, knowledge sharing, and research, all in support of Namibia’s National Development Plans and Vision 2030.
The agreement introduces cutting-edge programmes, workshops, and courses designed to enhance the skills and capacity of TransNamib’s workforce.
“These initiatives aim to ensure that employees are well-equipped to meet the demands of the modern transportation sector,” he said.
TransNamib and IUM will also collaborate on creating advanced curricula and training materials, particularly in rail engineering and other essential fields.
This effort is geared towards bolstering Namibia’s human capital, ensuring that the workforce is prepared for future challenges and opportunities.
The partnership provides prime opportunities for IUM students to participate in real-world research projects, internships, and in-service training within various departments at TransNamib.
“This hands-on experience is crucial for students’ professional development and readiness for the job market,” he said.
Exciting programmes for excursions and field attachments will be established, offering IUM students practical experience and professional growth at TransNamib.
These initiatives are designed to complement theoretical knowledge with real-world application, enhancing students’ overall educational experience.
The agreement also includes joint research initiatives aimed at generating new knowledge and developing practical solutions within the transportation sector in a Namibian environment.
The collaboration will strengthen innovation and contribute to the advancement of both institutions’ research capabilities.
“Our collaboration with IUM is a strategic step towards developing a skilled workforce that can drive innovation and efficiency in Namibia’s transportation sector,” he said.
He added that the agreement strengthens Namibia’s higher education sector and transportation industry.
“By leveraging each other’s strengths, TransNamib and the IUM commit to cultivating a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the ambitious targets outlined in the National Development Plans and Vision 2030,” he added.
