Tributes for Hanse-Himarwa pour in

Tributes from all over Namibia have poured in following the passing of former minister of education, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa. She died early Sunday morning at the age of 57.

President Nangolo Mbumba expressed shock and sadness, calling her a leading educationalist.

“The passing of Hanse-Himarwa robs our nation of a patriot who fought courageously for the birth of an independent nation,” said Mbumba.

He extended condolences to her family, noting her commendable contributions as a teacher and educational reformer.

The Popular Democratic Movement’s leader, McHenry Venaani, also expressed his condolences.

He remembered Hanse-Himarwa as compassionate and kind-hearted.

“Her contributions to the nation and her accomplishments in leadership and public service shall not be forgotten,” he said.

Hanse-Himarwa’s husband, Ghenno Himarwa who announced her death, shared his sorrow.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the sorrowful news of the passing of my beloved wife. She has left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories,” he said.

Hanse-Himarwa began her political career in 2004, serving as the Governor of the Hardap Region before becoming Minister of Education, Arts and Culture until 2019.
