Members of the Namibian Police in Swakopmund were called to a scene at Mile 11 after passersby discovered a body washed up on the beach.
According to Chief Inspector Ilenia Shapumba, the head of the Community Affairs Sub Division in the Erongo Region, the body was identified as that of 37-year-old Dennis Gamaseb, who was reportedly missing on Saturday 8 June.
Shapumba said that it was reported that on the same day, the victim, after requesting the children to sing a gospel song that he recently composed for him, left home and was later seen jumping from the roof of the Jetty Restaurant.
Eyewitnesses saw him disappear under the water and a search and rescue mission was launched soon afterwards.
Despite all the efforts of initially, volunteer divers and later some Namibian Navy divers, on the spot where he was last seen, his body could not be recovered.
More than ten days after he disappeared his body washed up on the shore approximately 20 kilometres north of where he was last seen alive.
According to Shapumba a member of the deceased person’s family positively identified the remains and that the body was transported to the police mortuary in Walvis Bay.
He added that an inquest into the death will continue.
