Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, the former Swapo Secretary General, has denied that she is one of the founders of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC).
She threatened to sue Paulus Hakalume, also known as Ndjaba Yolupangi, for N$300 000 if he did not retract his assertions that she is a founder member of the IPC through her lawyer, Kadhila Amoomo.
The letter to Kahalume reads, “You maliciously authored statements and circulated them through various social media platforms concerning our client, in which you stated that our client is a hibernator in the Swapo Party and/or that she is one of the founders of the IPC.”
Hakalume faces additional accusations of disseminating false graphic and verbal information about Iivula-Ithana’s political standing and reputation.
“It is further our instructions that these defamatory statements were made by yourself, in your personal capacity, and in your alter ego description of Ndjamba Yolupangi,” it further states.
Hakalume has been given until 20 June to publicly retract his allegations, apologise, or face a lawsuit.
Iivula-Ithana denied having any political relationship with Hakalume or knowing who he was.
“I do not know him; I just lay the charges against him. I also do not have control over the way my lawyers presented the charges against him,” she states.
When contacted for a comment, Hakalume abruptly ended the conversation, claiming that he did not receive the letter.
He labelled the letter a ‘rumour’ since he had not seen it or read it to understand its content.
“I am receiving calls from many people about that rumour. I did not receive any letter. I am waiting to receive it, read it and see what I can do. If it is an apology, it is just an apology,” he said.
Regarding the claims, Hakalume referred this publication to whoever is discussing them.
“Go to whoever made those assertions. I wish you all the best and a good day,” said Hakalume before he hung up the call.
