President Hage Geingob underwent routine colonoscopy and gastroscopy tests in a Windhoek hospital yesterday.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the President, the procedure was a follow-up to Geingob’s annual medical checkup.
The statement said that President Geingob always advises Namibians to undertake routine medical checkups in light of the importance of early detection and prevention of possible serious diseases.
The tests on President Geingob lasted for two hours, following which the President returned to his residence.
The most recent procedure follows after the President was admitted to a hospital in Windhoek in July 2023 for a follow-up procedure on the aortic valve procedure he underwent in South Africa in June 2023.
According to a statement issued by the Namibian Presidency, the procedure in Windhoek went according to plan and Dr Geingob is in good spirits.
President Hage Geingob was flown to South Africa in June last year to undergo a preventative surgical procedure after the presidential medical team detected a mild aortic stenosis during a routine medical checkup.
At the time the medical staff advised that President Geingob be flown to South Africa where underwent a preventive minor aortic valve procedure.
The previous surgical procedure had to be done in South Africa because Namibia does not have the necessary medical expertise to perform it.
After the surgery in South Africa President Hage Geingob took to social media to thank every person who sent him well wishes.
“I would like to thank the Namibians, cabinet colleagues, leaders of political parties, comrades and friends from all over the world for all the kind messages of support and well-wishes following my aortic procedure on Friday,” he said in the message.
Concerning the latest procedure in Windhoek, the Presidency said that Dr Geingob was already discharged and that he is recuperating at home.
