As the leader of one of the countries with the most advanced social protection systems in Africa, President Hage Geingob of the Republic of Namibia is poised to play a pivotal role in global discussions at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
President Geingob’s presence is not only significant within the main assembly but also extends to important events on the sidelines, making him a central figure in discussions on sustainable development, social protection, climate action, and international cooperation.
President Geingob will take the stage at the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions. His participation in this event on September 17th emphasizes Namibia’s leadership in advanced social protection systems within Africa.
This year’s UNGA carries the theme, “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all.”
President Geingob is set to engage in discussions aimed at finding solutions to interconnected global challenges and promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.
The President’s diplomatic efforts extend beyond the main UNGA sessions. He will participate in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on September 18th, emphasizing the need to scale up actions for SDG progress.
Namibia’s role as a destination for mining investments and green solutions will be highlighted during President Geingob’s participation in the Corporate Council on Africa Roundtable on “Critical Minerals and the Energy Transitions” on September 19th.
President Geingob’s commitment to combating climate change will be on display when he participates in the UN Climate Ambition Summit.
Leading Namibia during the High-Level Panel on Water Investment for Africa on September 19th, President Geingob will address the challenges faced by water-stressed countries and explore investment opportunities.
President Geingob is a founding member of The High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, aiming to find climate solutions with substantial economic, environmental, and social value.
The President will engage in bilateral and mini-lateral meetings with leaders from Germany, Belgium, Hungary, and South Korea on the sidelines of the UNGA.
Additionally, he will deliver remarks at the Invest in Namibia Luncheon and meet industry leaders, including representatives from Chevron International.
Academic Engagement: President Geingob will deliver a lecture at the Sciences Po University during a technical stop-over in France and will return to Namibia on 25 September.
In his role as Patron of Namibian Rugby, President Geingob may attend the Welwitschias’, World Cup match against New Zealand’s All Blacks on 15 September 2023.
