In a resounding vote of confidence and appreciation for outstanding leadership, the Swakopmund Municipality has officially extended Alfeus Benjamin’s contract as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for an additional five years.
The decision was made in accordance with the provisions of section 27 of the Local Authority Act, Act 23 of 1992, as amended.
Benjamin, who assumed office on December 1, 2018, will continue to guide the municipality with his proven leadership and vision. His new tenure will start on 1 December 2023.
For the past five years, Benjamin has been a driving force behind numerous positive changes and advancements within the Swakopmund Municipality. His leadership, dedication, and deep commitment to the community have been key factors in the decision to extend his contract.
Under his guidance, the Swakopmund Municipality has achieved notable milestones in infrastructure development, community engagement, and sustainable urban planning. His visionary approach and effective management have significantly contributed to the overall growth and well-being of Swakopmund.
The Mayor of Swakopmund, Dina Namubes expressed the council’s enthusiasm for the extension by saying: “Our decision is backed by the immense contribution and tangible results that Mr. Benjamin has delivered over his first five-year term. We are indeed fortunate to have a visionary CEO, one who is people-centred, an authentic leader who engages actively in the work deliverables of this Council.”
She said the CEO’s tenure has been marked by excellence and integrity.
“He is determined to leverage his experience, skills, and expertise to drive Swakopmund to even greater heights in the coming years,” she said.
Benjamin, in response to the extension of his contract, expressed his gratitude and commitment to upholding the high standards associated with his role.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Council of Swakopmund for considering my extended appointment at this esteemed position. I am humbled by the trust you, individually and collectively, and indeed the community of Swakopmund, have placed in me,” he said.
He stated that he is committed to leading the organization with vision, dedication, and a collaborative approach.
“I will work closely with the Council, the Executive team, employees, stakeholders, and regulating bodies to achieve the goals we have set; maintain compliance with regulating acts and create value for all,” he said.
The extension of his contract reflects the Swakopmund Municipality’s belief in Benjamin’s ability to continue leading the municipality into a prosperous future while relying on his continued guidance.
