Three commit suicide over the weekend

The Namibian Police reported that three people committed suicide by hanging themselves over the past weekend.

According to the weekend crime report, on Friday at about 07h40, the body of Immanuel Sheehama Matias, aged 33 was found at Okathitu kaNangombe village, Ogongo Constituency, in Omusati Region.

It is alleged that the deceased committed suicide by hanging himself with a wire from a mopane tree branch.

His body was found in a decomposed state, Nampol Spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said. Matias was last seen when he left the house, four days before the discovery of his body.

His remains were taken to the Okahao mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death.

The Police also indicated that there was no suicide note left by the deceased.

On the same day, at about 14h30, a 51-year-old Namibian woman committed suicide at the Omahenene location, in the Oshana region.

It is alleged that the deceased hanged herself with a rope in her bedroom.

Her body was transported to the Oshakati police mortuary for an autopsy.

“There was no suicide note found and no foul play is suspected,” the Police report says.

In another similar incident, the Namibian Police also reported that an 86-year-old Fredrick Shikodhi, a Namibian man, committed suicide at the Oshaandja Village in Oshakati West, in the Oshana region.

The incident happened on Friday, around 07h30.

It is alleged that the deceased hanged himself with a rope under a tree in a mahangu field close to his homestead.

Shikodhi’s son told investigators that he last saw his father the night before his death.

The Police said that no foul play is suspected and no suicide note was left behind. The body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police investigations in all three incidents continue.
